Baaghi 2 marks Tiger Shroff’s return to the big screen post the failures of A Flying Jatt and Munna Michael. Though his first 2 films set the box-office on fire and made him one of the hottest young stars across the country, the failure of his last 2 outings made people skeptical about his power as a box-office draw. While his competitors have dabbled in multiple genres since their debut, Tiger has mostly stayed in his comfort zone i.e. action.
The film also marks the return of choreographer Ahmed Khan back to direction after directing duds like Lakeer and Fool & Final. Baaghi is an adaptation of Telegu movie Kshanam and Tiger would be hoping it turns out to be a hit. Sadly, the film is plagued with multiple issues which never let the audience stay invested in the story or characters in particular. Tiger Shroff tries very hard to salvage the film but is let down by a poor script.
The film starts off with a kidnapping which brings our army man Ranveer Pratap Singh into action as he’s contacted by his ex-girlfriend to help look for her kidnapped daughter. You will want to know why she has contacted him after all these years and why she isn’t telling him the whole story. Too bad for you, you will have to sit through the whole 144 minutes of the film’s runtime to get to the bottom of the plot.

The film is filled with unnecessary subplots which serve no purpose to the film. Baaghi 2 also includes some real-life incidents which serve as an over the top politically correct acknowledgments to some institutions. The film is filled with clichéd dialogues about the army and the police and it will make you wonder whether the script was written in the 90s. I am still wondering why Prateik Babbar was even in the film.
Randeep Hooda and Manoj Bajpai do what they do best, shine in an otherwise bland film and both actors do great with whatever little material they have been provided. Randeep Hooda as the hippie Inspector does go over the top sometimes, even in the scenes where it’s not required. Tiger Shroff performs the action scenes quite well and in some scenes you see him try really hard but the script doesn’t allow him anything else rather than flexing his muscles.
Disha Patani and Tiger Shroff look good on screen but a film is much more than that. Disha Patani is again unable to survive the first half of the film and it will make you wish she signs her next project in which she gets to feature for the whole length of the film. Baaghi 2 will surely do better at the box-office during its initial days and it all depends whether the audiences can look aside from the flaws, that is the only for the film to score big at the box-office.
